The charge effect depends entirely on the electronic 3-stage regulator. The Alpha has been specially designed for Mastervolt’s high output alternators and cannot be used with other alternators such as the Lucas, CAV, Valeo or Japanese models. It can be adapted to operate with a Bosch alternator, although only after some alterations have been made.

A DC-DC converter is a converter used in a 12V or 24V battery system. It has two main functions: either to convert the 24V from the onboard power system to supply 12V consumers such as navigation and communication equipment, or to stabilise the 12 or 24V onboard system. With the Mastervolt converter you can opt for a 24V main battery in any situation, without limiting your use of 12V appliances. Mastervolt's range also includes converters that can change 12V into 24V as well as functioning as a voltage stabiliser, to keep the onboard system at a fixed 12 or 24V DC voltage.

To prevent the starter battery and the batteries supplying the lighting and bowthruster from draining each other in installations above a certain size they are kept separate. As a result the charge system is more complicated than in installations with only one service battery: the alternator on the propulsion engine has to recharge all the battery sets individually and the same applies to the battery charger. Although it is possible to select the battery source manually, using a battery switch, much better results can be achieved by placing a diode splitter in the positive cable connection from the alternator to the various batteries. Almost all Mastervolt battery chargers come standard with two or three outputs. Only when two or more banks have to be charged with high current, a battery isolator has to be fitted.
